Vinous: 93 points
Infectious juiciness, poise and seamless polish are on splendid display along with the cool crunch of lettuce, snap pea and barely-ripe pear. Tang of pear skin, piquancy of pea tendril and bite of pepper cress and mustard greens add mouth-tingling exhilaration to a superbly sustained finish. Picked at the end of October and weighing in at 13.1% alcohol, this reflects the sort of cool vintage that Alzinger Junior thinks best displays the virtues of fast-warming, loess-covered parcels in Loibenberg, ?whereas in warmer years the wine can be hefty [mächtig] and voluminous.? (Not that I can recall ever having attributed those two adjectives?which many growers would take as compliments?to any Alzinger wine.)
