Product Description

The Wine House is thrilled to welcome three of Austria’s most influential winemakers: Michael Malat of Malat, Martin Mittelbach of  Weingut Tegernseerhof and Emmerich Knoll of Weingut Knoll, for a sit-down seminar in Upstairs 2. While these three wineries may be considered the ‘Old Guard’ of Austria, we are thrilled to have the latest generation of winemakers of the estates with us for this seminar.

Malat is a multi-award-winning pioneer in Austria’s Kremstal region and were the first Austrian producer to bottle an estate Sekt in 1976. The winery continues to move forward with their vineyard practices are still worked by hand and the work with organic and sustainable practices.

Weingut Tegernseerhof  – The historical roots of Tegernseerhof go back over 1000 years. Holy Roman Emperor Henry II granted the Benedictine monastery of Tegernsee two oxgangs of land in Wachau. In 1176, Tegernseerhof was built and named after its owner. Today, Tegernseerhof is owned by the Mittelbach family. The winery has been in their possession for five generations. The name has been preserved, like the ancient knowledge of viniculture, passed on from one generation to the next.

Weingut Knoll – There is hardly another vineyard that has shaped the perception of the Wachau as a serious high-quality wine-growing region as strongly as that of the Knoll family. Many generations of this family have dedicated their lives to growing wine: the first glass bottles were filled with Knoll wine in the 1950s, and the arguably most famous wine label in Austria – the family’s trademark baroque image of Saint Urban – first graced the Knoll wine bottles in 1962.
