Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 90-91 points
The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello exhibits an opaque purple color, as well as an elegant, black currant, mineral, and smoky oak-scented nose. The wine is medium to full-bodied, tannic, and in need of 10 years of cellaring. Not a blockbuster, this offering is more elegant and finesse-styled than usual. However, as with previous Monte Bellos, it will take a long time to come around, yet it will keep for 2-3 decades.Tel. (408) 867-3233; Fax (408) 867-2986

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: 91-94 points
Saturated dark ruby color. Slightly reduced nose opened to reveal cassis, roast coffee and nutty, toasty oak. Lush, sweet and layered gives an impression of lowish acidity and great fat. Finishes very long, with substantial dusty tannins.
