Vinous: 93 points
(bottled in May of 2001) Deep, saturated ruby. Oaky, penetrating aromas of cassis, leather, licorice and game; shows a less roasted and somewhat rawer dark berry character than the '99. Peppery, floral and still quite tightly wound; with aeration, this showed complex, intense flavors of blackberry, leather, licorice and game. A solidly structured, backward wine that finishes with big, mouthdusting, peppery tannins. Completely different in style from the '99, and in a way more classic, perfumed Cote-Rotie.
