Bruno Rocca's 2009 Barbaresco is a standout. Today, the 2009 impresses for its textural finesse and silkiness. Layers of fruit wrap around the palate in this juicy, exuberant wine. Sweet red berries, tobacco and dried flowers are some of the notes that linger on the finish. The 2009 is one of the best straight Barbareschi I can remember tasting from Bruno Rocca and his family. Although not labeled as such, the Barbaresco is a single-vineyard wine from a parcel in Curra. This is a wonderful wine to drink over the next decade or so. Bruno Rocca told me he gave the 2009 more air during racking in order to produce a Barbaresco that would be ready to drink upon release. It looks like he succeeded, and then some. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021.

Round and charming, this red displays cherry, leather, licorice and spice flavors, with a hint of dark chocolate. Balanced and fresh, featuring a mouthwatering finish. Best from 2014 through 2024. 900 cases made.
