A linear, high-tension red, this offers macerated cherry, strawberry, licorice, mineral and tobacco flavors stretched taut against the firm structure. Fine energy and a long aftertaste indicate the potential. Best from 2019 through 2035. 541 cases made.

Scavino's 2012 Barolo Carobric is nicely layered throughout. Creamy and inviting, the Carobric is quite expressive at this early stage. Sweet floral notes meld into a core of red-fleshed fruits. Mint, cinnamon, savory herbs, leather and rose petal are some of the nuances that open up as the Carobric shows off its personality. The Carobric often gets lost in the mix at Scavino, but history has shown it ages very well. In this vintage, the Carobric is mid-weight and a bit more laid back than normal, but the ability to blend fruit across different sites was clearly an advantage.
