The 2014 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibner Steinertal opens clear and intense on the nose, displaying white fruit and vegetal aromas. Full-bodied and creamy, with very good intensity, mineral freshness and tension, this is a very elegant and well-balanced Veltliner. The wine has firm structure and a stimulatingly salty finish. It is ready to drink, but will benefit from more years in the bottle.

Minerally and peppery, with crisp Gala apple and white peach flavors, supported by vibrant acidity. Lemon drop notes linger on the spicy and fresh finish. Drink now through 2019. 30 cases imported.

A strikingly and?for this cépage?unusually citric nose and palate encompass kumquat and pineapple for a piquant and tangy yet tropical, lusciously ripe impression nor does this wine want in the least for palpable density. And all of this has been achieved at a modest 12.7% alcohol, lending a remarkable sense of lift. The finish here is clear and ringing, introducing site-typical pepper and tobacco while offering crystalline stoniness, floral perfume and green herbal essences. ?It?s the lightest Grüner Veltliner Smaragd I have ever bottled,? notes Lucas Pichler, and I?m confident we?d have to go well back in estate history to find a lower-alcohol exemplar rendered by his father. Bottled in early August, this spent May and June in cask, but was otherwise in tank.
