Product Description

"We have been carrying Stolpman Vineyards wines since the beginning and every year the team seems to step it up a notch! This wine is no different with 95 points! This wine is just too good to keep in stock so don’t miss out. Buy to open up with friends today or cellar to enjoy in years to come." – Glen Knight, The Wine House (4/4/17)

Vineyard: Blocks 1 & 2 – oldest vines on the property
Varietal Blend: 100% Syrah
Vinification: 50% whole-cluster in open top unsealed concrete tanks
Vatting/Fermentation: 28 days
Cooperage & Elevage: all neutral puncheon for 14 months

Inky dark, Originals Syrah is tightly wound, strong and lively. It will certainly enjoy a long life in the cellar and reward those with the patience to wait. If opened prior to 2018, please make sure the grill is hot and a ribeye is nearby: this bad boy needs protein.

About Stolpman Vineyards
Over 20 years ago, our Founding Partner, Thomas Stolpman, discovered what we believe to be one of the greatest viticultural sites on earth. Hidden in the hills of California’s Central Coast, on a rare Limestone outcropping & unobstructed from the Pacific Ocean wind, this unique land is ideally suited to grow Syrah and Roussanne grapes. We are committed to preserving this natural environment for our vines through natural farming, dry farming, & sustainable employment. In the winery, we prefer native fermentation & minimal manipulation. Dedicated to sensible farming & winemaking, we believe that we can create natural, vibrant, site-specific wines, with a focus unique to Ballard Canyon AVA, California.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 93 points

The 2014 Syrah Originals Estate is another outstanding effort from winemaker Sashi Moorman. Made in a ripe, textured and hedonistic style, it has beautiful purity in its blueberry, blackberry, salty mineral and creamy licorice aromas and flavors. Fermented with 65% whole clusters and aged 15 months in neutral French oak, it's upfront and ready to go, but will keep nicely for 4-6 years.

Wine Enthusiast: 95 points

Very savory aromas of roasted lamb, bacon fat, teriyaki and crushed pepper meet with light blueberry and a touch of mint on the nose of this delicious, well-rounded bottling by winemaker Sashi Moorman from the vineyard's oldest blocks. The palate kicks off with a zesty acidity, then come waves of black pepper-crusted beef roast, oregano, bay leaf, dark plum fruit and lavender. The solid structure ensures cellar potential but it's ready to drink today.
