    THE FIRST SUPER TUSCAN!

“Tenuta San Guido’s Sassicaia is Italy’s most important wine and is consistently the country’s most recognized name worldwide. In my twenty years of focusing on Italian wines, Sassicaia is unrivaled in its uncompromising dedication to improvements in quality as well as the development of an ever-growing following from across the globe. Even at its lofty price, it continues to outsell all other Super Tuscans, and that is because the Incisa della Rocchetta family strives to make a wine that speaks of place. This Bolgheri red is defined by its coastal aspects, the sea air, the cypress trees and its geology. Sassicaia remains one of the most identifiable wines of place you will find. And it also helps that the wine is absolutely delicious!

The 2014 vintage proved to be difficult in some parts of Tuscany, but it was less so in the Bolgheri. The 2014 Sassicaia is an outstanding bottle of wine that is beginning to drink beautifully now. I recently enjoyed a lunch with co-owner Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta that focused on this wine and I was wonderfully impressed with it. The other plus is that the price of the 2014 Sassicaia is the most modest I have seen it in more than a decade. The release price is $235, but we have a special holiday price of $158.99, the lowest in years. However, we have a very limited supply at this price – only 120 bottles!” – Lance Montalto, The Wine House (12/14/17)

    Wine Enthusiast: 95 points

“Aromas of red berry, blue flower, menthol, exotic spice and a whiff of French oak take shape on this impeccably balanced radiant red. The palate is vibrant and focused—almost ethereal—delivering raspberry compote, Marasca cherry, star anise and cinnamon framed in elegant tannins. Weightless and loaded with finesse, it's an incredible result for what was a cool wet vintage in most of Italy. Drink through 2024.” - Keren O’Keefe

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 93 points

“This is my official review of the 2014 Bolgheri Sassicaia after having been graciously invited to the estate for various barrel samples spanning back several years. I have watched the evolution of this wine with a close eye and am impressed by how its real quality is diametrically opposed to the poor expectations of this difficult vintage. The nose is redolent of bright fruit and blackberry. Spice, tar and leather appear subtly at the back. The wine took on considerable weight each year I came back to taste it and this vintage was bottled earlier than average, precisely to give it more time to unwind and relax in the small confines of the bottle. This is a solid effort for sure and the wine is a stunning example of what it takes to make great wine, even when weather conditions are not in your favor.” -Monica Larner
