Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 90 points
This is a terrific entry-level red from the talented folks at I Custodi. The 2017 Etna Rosso Pistus shows a dark color and a mid-weight style with dark cherry and blackberry. Those primary aromas are followed by the usual succession of oak spice and volcanic ash. Here, however, the delivery of those aromas is particularly bright and balanced. There's nothing too complicated in this wine, but it hits all the necessary pleasure points and would surely make a great companion to porcini mushroom risotto. The blend is 80-20 Nerellos Mascalese and Cappuccio. Some 32,000 bottles were made.
