THE TRUE SOUL OF PROVENCE IN A BOTTLE!

"Summer is here, the weather is getting a little warmer, the evenings are lasting a little longer – before you know it the BBQs will start to happen, and Rosé wines will bring it all together! We just received one of my favorite rosés from the South of France: 2016 Commanderie de Peyrassol Cotes de Provence. The winery dates back to the 13th century and is home to some of the best Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah vines in the region. I love the elegant and graceful style of the Côtes de Provence rosés and Chateau Peyrassol makes some of the best! Their whites and rosés are world-class and found on the lists of some of the top restaurants throughout France and beyond. Enjoy hanging with friends this spring and summer with this nice, crisp and refreshing rosé. Cheers!" – Jim Knight, The Wine House (6/9/17)

    Blend:
46% Cinsault, 27% Syrah, 22% Grenache, and 5% Ugni Blanc.

    Tasting Notes:
The aromas are dominantly mineral with a hint of small red fruits. Currently this rosé presents very linear on the palate, and is not particularly juicy. It does have a concentrated core of pure sweet fruit that gives the wine a glycerol texture. The bottle we tasted was bottled just four days earlier, so do expect the wine to perhaps open up more over the coming months.

    Vinification:
The method is direct press, as all rosés at Peyrassol are made from 100% direct-press juice. The fruit is picked at night to preserve the freshness of the fruit (they typically start harvesting around 3:00 in the morning).

    FROM THE CHATEAU

Founded in the 13th century by the Knights Templar, the Commanderie de Peyrassol covers an area of some 850 hectares dotted with oaks and olive groves, with 93 hectares dedicated to growing grapes. Thanks to its outstanding natural location the Commanderie was a favoured staging post and a place of rest for pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land.

At an elevation of 330 metres on the lower slopes of the Massif des Maures, the vineyard sits on a clay and limestone soil which is ideal for viticulture. Since the first varieties were planted by the Templars some 800 years ago, generations of wine growers have applied their know-how to nurturing the vineyard and its wines through the dedicated cultivation of this exceptional terroir. Since 2003 Alban Cacaret has managed the Commanderie de Peyrassol alongside his uncle, Philippe Austruy, who has owned the estate since 2001. Together they have restored the domaine to its former glory and have made Peyrassol one of the most respected vineyards in Provence.
