The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Award in Wines course is intended as vocational training in product knowledge for those employed in the drinks industry but who have little previous knowledge of wine. The qualification is suitable wherever a good level of product knowledge is required to underpin job skills and competencies. The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines course is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry but who want a serious education in wine and wish to broaden their knowledge in a structured way.

The course is based around a 5-week, 6-module online program with a recommendation of 6 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook (30 hours total for the course). Regular access and participation in the course online activities with the WSET online educator is essential for this mode of study. The online course structure allows the student to work ahead or catch up on the activities and forums. There are no set times to log into the course as there are no live chats or webinars.

The course prepares the student for the WSET qualification and they are guided by a WSET educator. The student can contact the educator any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should they have any questions. Each module includes a series of independent activities to help students understand wine label terminology and recognize the styles produced by the main grape varieties in key wine regions.

This course includes an in-person tasting of 20+ wines on Sunday, January 9, 2022 led by Monica Marin, FWS/DWS, and nominee for WSET Educator of the Year 2019. Students may taste additional recommended wines as found in the course specification. Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the WSET online educator.
