Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: 95 points

Ooh la la. From the generous aromas redolent of ripe peaches, sweet pears, honey, hints of caramel and blood oranges to its rich, oily, luxuriant texture and complex hints of botrytis that show up from first sniff to lasting aftertaste, this scrumptious bottling represents a first rate achievement by any measure. It is rich, genuinely layered and even a bit more advanced than the others, and while it is likely to last for two decades and more, it might come into perfection somewhat before the other highly concentrated bottlings.

Wine Spectator: 95 points

Loads of pear and honey character follow through to a full-bodied palate, with lots of spicy character and a sweet, long finish. Very, very spicy on the finish. Better than 2003, but will it ultimately be better than 2001? Score range: 95-100

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: 92 points

Full, bright yellow-gold. Discreet but ripe and rich nose offers apricot, marzipan and honey. Wonderfully plump, sweet and full, with uncommon depth and concentration to its flavors of soft ripe apricot, pineapple and spices. Offers an exhilarating combination of silky texture and sheer intensity. The nectar-like, rot-ennobled finishing flavors stain the palate and go on and on. This should evolve in bottle for three or four decades.
