2016 Akilia Villa de San Lorenzo Blanco Bierzo

There is a new white produced with Palomino and one-fourth Doña Blanca and first bottled as the 2016 Villa de San Lorenzo. The grapes for the wine come from various plots of old vines on slate and quartzite plots at 650 meters altitude. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. One-quarter of the wine matured in used barrels for five months. It's clearly unfiltered and unfined, as it's quite cloudy with a yeasty and herbal nose with hints of fennel and wet stones. The palate is very tasty, clean and focused with a dry, stony finish. 5,000 bottles were filled in March 2017. Review Date: August 2017
