#86 Top 100 Wines 2023 “As with almost all of the Syrahs here, the 2020 Syrah The Deal was not destemmed, saw an extended maceration, and spent 18 months in 40% new French puncheons. Deep ruby/purple-hued, it has an incredibly floral perfume of black and blue fruits, pepper, iron, and crushed stone. With medium to full-bodied richness, a focused, precision, elegant texture, and a great finish, it’s a gem of a Syrah as well as an insane value.” – Jeb Dunnuck Review Date: June 2023
“This has a seductive nose of black plums, dark cherries, dried violets, ash and honeycomb. Full-bodied, silky and caressing yet firm, too, with polished tannins and a lovely floral character. Drink or hold.” – Claire Nesbitt Review Date: March 2023
“The 2020 Syrah The Deal is savory to the core, with grilled herbs and black currants forming its darkly alluring bouquet. This is sleek and racy, also mineral to the core, with zesty black fruits and exotic spices that swirl throughout, motivated by brisk acidity. It tapers off remarkably long and staining, yet leaves the palate watering for more, as sage and clove notes slowly taper off. Drinking Window: 2024-2031” – Eric Guido Review Date: October 2022
“Pure, fresh and dark-fruited, the 2020 Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard opens to a nose filled with black raspberry, resinous purple flowers and soft dusty aromas that lift from the glass with pink peppercorn notes. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is still tight and mineral-driven on the palate, with pure flavors of spiced plum skin and dark cherries, a balanced structure and lifting tannins. The wine concludes with a floral, red-fruited finish and lingering spice notes. It's a brilliant wine that rested for 21 months in French oak barrels, 40% new. Bravo! Drink Date: 2023 – 2035” – Anthony Mueller Review Date: May 2023
