2021 Veronica Ortega Tormenta Godello Bierzo

"There is a new white Godello from limestone soils, from a vineyard she found to replace the vineyard she was using for the Cal. The 2021 Tormenta comes from a 0.8-hectare, head-pruned vineyard with 15- and 25-year-old vines following the limestone vein. It's austere, shy, a little closed and very tasty, and with time in the glass, it develops notes of white flowers. It was produced in exactly the same way as she was producing Cal (the white wine that she stopped making 2020, which was produced half in amphora and half in barrique). It's super tasty and has the salty tastiness of the chalky soils, and it's vertical, with a great mid-palate and pungent minerality. 6,200 bottles produced.
