WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES

This signature powerhouse Pinot Noir is from our home estate in Yamhill. Its marine sedimentary soils create a darker, more textural wine than neighboring AVAs. On the nose, blackberry and bing cherry aromas merge with mulling spices. The palate packs a punch, with fine, bold tannins and crushed slate minerality layers along with deep red fruits. Drink now or cellar until 2035.

THE 2023 VINTAGE

Willamette Valley was blessed with near-perfect weather in 2023. Winter brought a couple snow events, but moderate overall. Spring was long and wet with occasional "atmospheric rivers" rolling through. The year's gem was our amazing summer. Unlike the three previous summers with multiple days of triple-digit temperatures, 2023 stayed mostly in the mid-80's. Our vineyards received ample sunshine without oppressive heat or threat of moisture.

Because the weather ramped up so steadily, our grapes grew quickly into healthy clusters -- some of the biggest bunches we've had! Full phenolic ripeness was easy to achieve, and harvest had one of the earliest starts ever. In the Willamette Valley, first picks were as early as August 26th for sparkling. Ironically Napa, after an incredibly wet spring, was an unprecedented three weeks behind us. Wines from 2023 are juicy and bold, with great aging potential, especially on the red wines. Enjoy the fruits of our Goldilocks summer!

Jeb Dunnuck

“Displaying a deeper magenta/ruby hue, the 2023 Pinot Noir Domaine Danielle Laurent was sourced from biodynamically farmed vines planted nearly 25 years ago. It offers depth and intensity, with saturating notes of black raspberries, grenadine, crushed flowers, and a touch of reduction. This wine needs time to integrate and shed some of its youthful character. The broadest and most plush in the lineup, it’s relatively full-bodied, with savory, mushroomy earth notes and a darker overall profile. Structurally firm, with ripe tannins and some grip on the finish, it’s going to benefit from some patience. Drink 2027-2047.” – Audrey Frick Review Date: August 2025

Editors’ Choice: “This berry-licious treat begins with Rainier cherry, mulberry and grape hyacinth aromas. The fruit on the palate is darker, with blackberries mingling with bits of bay leaf, nutmeg and a cup of strong-brewed English breakfast tea. The acidity is elevated with fine-grained tannins. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine rested in French oak barrels, 22% new, for 11 months.” – Michael Alberty Review Date: August 2025

“Opens with a burst of pure, floral raspberry but then shifts gears, building a deep structure with tarragon and forest floor tones. Finishes with cherry fruit leather accents and broad-shouldered tannins. Best from 2027 through 2035.” – Tim Fish Review Date: March 2026
