“The 2023 L'Avion includes a touch of Chardonnay and is matured for 21 months in new Ermitage barrels. As ever, it is an oily, exotic, floral and honeyed wine, with this vintage exuding a certain cleansing, lavender-like note that is quite lovely. Rich, lumbering and broad-shouldered on the palate, the finish is defined by a rich yet classy opulence, welcomely supported by a vibrant spine of acidity. This is the perfect midpoint of accessibility and seriousness, and it should evolve beautifully in the cellar well past its 10th birthday. “Stolpman’s 2023 Roussanne L’Avion is a powerful, explosive white that impresses with its sheer intensity. Oily and tropical, the 2023 soaks into every corner of the mouth, saturating the palate and leaving the mouth absolutely salivating. Everything here is dialed up to 11. The 100% new oak is a bit out front today, but time should ameliorate that. L’Avion always ages in style, and I see no reason why the 2023 won’t follow suit.
