Alegre-Valgañón is a new estate which is part of the Rioja'n'roll movement: young winemakers who want to bring new life into this very classic appellation, with a new approach. They are based in Sajazarra, a small village of some 100 inhabitants at the Western tip of Rioja Alta, near the Cantabrica range and the Ebro river. Owners Oscar and Eva work only with organic vines and make wine like their grandparents used to.
This is a beautiful classic white Rioja wine composed of several grapes sourced from plots in Fontaleche, Sajazarra and Labastida. Complex white wine that perfectly reflects their philosophy.
Made with mostly Viura plus a bit of Garnacha blanca and Tempranillo blanco.
Tasting Notes: Beautiful golden yellow color. In the nose creamy notes of lime and sandstone terroirs. Green apple from the skin maceration that blends nicely with the mineral notes. Delicate and rich finish. Drink now through 2029.

92+ Points: “The white 2024 Blanco was produced with 85% Viura, 10% Garnacha Blanca and 5% Tempranillo Blanco from seven vineyards in the Montes Obarenes. They let the wine go through malolactic if it wants and did less than 10% skin contact, aged the wine in 3,000-liter concrete vat, three 1,000-liter oak vats and 500-liter barrels, working the lees, more early on and less at the end. It has a moderate 12.9% alcohol and a pH of 3.25, and comes through as characterful, with notes of herbs, pollen, beeswax and spice. It's clean, expressive and open, with a balanced and tasty mouthfeel and a chalky sensation, finishing dry. 10,900 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2025. Drink Date: 2026 - 2030” – Luis Gutiérrez Review Date: March 2026
