Study materials available for pick up from The Wine House (2311 Cotner Ave, Los Angeles) as soon as you receive a confirmation email of your registration. It is advisable to pick up the materials at the Wine House before the class on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is a suggested prerequisite for the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines course. Students learn the basics of wine in this entry-level course in a format specially designed for those with no previous wine knowledge. It is strongly recommended for consumers or those new to wine, and focuses on the main styles of wines available, tasting technique, wine and food pairing as well as wine service and etiquette.
ABOUT THE WINE HOUSE WSET COURSES

Our instructor, Monica Marin, has been nominated for WSET Instructor of the Year and has been teaching at the Wine House for over 15 years. Monica teaches all levels, from the introductory WSET Level 1 to the expert-level WSET Level 4 Diploma. Our in-person courses offer the best wine tasting experience due to our access to the magnificent wine selection of domestic and international wines in our store. As a well-established wine education school based in Los Angeles, our staff takes care of our students from the moment they sign up until they successfully graduate. Due to the quality of our education, our WSET class pass rate is well above the national average. We also offer free parking in the lot above The Wine House as well as in a lot across the street from the store.

Exam fee and exam with 30 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 45 minutes

Wine Tasting: Taste and describe wines using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting
Food and Wine Matching: A practical guide to the key considerations when matching food and wine successfully
Wine Service and Storage: Learn the correct way to store and serve wine and recognize common faults found in wine
Types and Styles of Wine: Learn about what makes wines taste different
Grape Varieties: Learn about the characteristics and styles of wines produced from the main grape varieties
Main White Grape Varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling
Main Black Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah/Shiraz
Named Wines: Champagne, Sancerre, Chablis, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Prosecco, Cava, Beaujolais, Côtes du Rhône, Chianti, Rioja, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Sauternes, Sherry, Port
Number of Wines Tasted: 11 wines will be tasted as part of the course

Duration of Course: 6 hours inclusive of examination
Examination: 30 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 45 minutes. A mark of 70% required to pass

Exams are ordered from the WSET in London under the student’s name and no refunds can be made after a student’s exam has been ordered. No refunds after study materials are picked up by the student.
